YaST has always been an unnecessary overhead, and one of the main reasons I eschew SuSE but it excelled itself today when I realised it had wiped me (and everyone else) from the users group, and yet managed to convince itself it hadn't. Firstly let us examine the contents of /etc/group, and note how nobody is in it. NEVADA:/home/cianer # cat /etc/group | grep users users:x:100: NEVADA:/home/cianer #
Now lets look at how YaST's head is wedged firmly up its arse. Exhibit A: YaST's opinion of the members of the users group, which includes yours truly.
Exhibit B: The "Edit an existing group" screen. Note how yours truly isn't in the default users list, nor in the list of users that can be added to the group. Exhibit C: YaST's userlist. Notice how they are all members of group users.
What a complete bucket of shit. YaST is worse than useless as it has gone into the territory of creating anti-work. Maybe that's the idea - keep SuSE-certified administrators in business...? |
