Joomla editor missing buttons after upgrade PDF Print E-mail

I upgraded the Dogs Aid Animal Sanctuary website from Joomla 1.5.7 to Joomla 1.5.13 to get all the recent security patches and my wife had a stroke because a lot of the icons she uses regularly for Article Editing had disappeared.

It took me a while to realise how to get them back so here's how to do it.  The reason is that Joomla 1.5.12 upgraded to TinyMCE version 3.0 which comes with a number of different functionality settings.  It is set to "advanced" functionality by default and what we have to do is enable the "extended" functionality as follows:

  1. Click on Extensions and then Plugin Manager
  2. Click on Editor - TinyMCE
  3. Change functionality from advanced to extended
  4. Save

 

Ta daaaa!  All the missing editor buttons are back, and they've brought some friends.
